Dissolution and Sole Custody

A disabled father was a stay-at-home dad, caring for his children. One day, his daughter came across a number of letters addressed to her mother. The young daughter showed the letters to the father. They were sexually explicit and included fantasies of the author and the girl's mother moving to a commune. It turned out these letters were written by a man while in prison. Subsequent investigation revealed that the man was known to the father. The man was a convicted rapist, out on parole, who was about to return to prison due to a parole violation. The father suspected his wife was having an affair with the man since they spent much time together. As the man was scheduled to return to prison, he used the mother's car to leave the state. The man was eventually captured and arrested in Montana. Olaf Hansen represented the father in the dissolution and custody battle. Olaf obtained a restraining order to allow the father and the children to leave the home. The mother claimed that the father was incapable of raising the children because of his disability. Three separate investigations, two of them requested by the mother, proved her wrong. Olaf proved not only that the father was an effective and beneficial primary caregiver, but that the mother's behavior was a danger to the children. The court granted full and sole custody to the father.
