Some parenting choices that were once common are now a bad idea

Parenting is hard. When you are trying to do it on your own, there might be some ways that you are tempted to make your life easier, but you need to make sure that you aren't running afoul of the law.

There are many things that were acceptable when you were a child that aren't acceptable now. In fact, many laws have been put into place to address changing times.

One thing that you shouldn't do is leave your children in the car when you run into a store or go to run an errand. Even though it might be difficult to bring them in with you, keeping them safe is a much better option than leaving them alone in the car. In the summer, there is a chance that the children will get too hot and suffer hyperthermia. In the winter, there is a chance they will get too cold and suffer hypothermia.

You shouldn't leave your children outside if they are unattended. Parents can face legal troubles if they allow their children to go to the park or similar places without an adult present. In some cases, it is even illegal to leave your children at home by themselves.

Finally, make sure that you make appropriate plans for your children if they need to travel. Unaccompanied minors face strict regulations on flights and some other forms of public transportation. Find out about the specific laws and requirements before you try to send your child on a trip. This includes reviewing the child custody order that might have stipulations on where and how the children can travel.
