Tips for making vacation plans after a divorce

There are many different things that you can do when you are getting ready to go on vacation that will make your life much easier. One of the top things that you can do is to plan ahead. This is especially important if you have children who are part of a child custody agreement.

The issue that comes up when you have a child custody agreement is that you don't have to think about only your own plans. You also have to think about the custody order and your ex. This makes it very difficult to plan, especially if the agreement is especially restrictive.

You must ensure that the location of your vacation is permissible. Geographical restrictions are sometimes present in these orders to ensure that the parent doesn't take the child too far away from the other parent. If you want to go out of the immediate area, you might have to get permission from the court or from your ex.

It is a good idea to run your vacation plans past your ex, even if you aren't required to by the court. This can allow you to address any issues that might come up well in advance of the trip. It also gives you a chance to discuss scheduling and other similar facets of the trip with your ex.

While you are on vacation, make sure that your child has ample opportunities to communicate with the other parent. This might put your ex at ease since he or she can speak to the child and may help with the exchange of memories about the trip.
