Think about each aspect of divorce separately
Written By: Josh Lowell ~ 7/20/2017

There are a lot of considerations when you go through a divorce. We recently discussed some of the things you have to think about if you and your spouse run a company together. The thing to remember is that all points related to your divorce are important.

When you go through a collaborative divorce or use mediation to come to the terms of the divorce, you need to think clearly about each decision you need to make and not look at the process as a collective one-stop-shop to complete as quickly as possible.

For example, you can't let how property is divided have an impact on what arrangements you make for the children. The property division should be handled on its own and the child custody should also be handled independently. Drawing the lines before you get the process started can often help to remember them as you get things worked out.

This isn't to say that things won't come together sometimes. There is a chance that who has primary custody of the children will have a say in who gets to keep the marital home. Of course, this isn't always the way that it happens since you also need to think about whether you can afford to keep the home on one salary while you are caring for children.

We know that you might have a lot to consider when it comes to all of these issues. We can help you so that you can move forward efficiently and as expeditiously as possible with the divorce process.
