Don't ignore a sore or stiff neck after a car crash
Written By: Josh Lowell ~ 6/20/2018

The force of impact that occurs in a car accident can have a variety of effects of the human body. Even in accidents that seem minor, there is still a chance that a person might suffer an injury. In some cases, these injuries won't be noticed right at the time of the accident so you must be vigilant in the days after the incident.

One of the possible injuries that can occur but that you might not notice right away is whiplash. This is an injury that impacts the structures of the neck. In the past, people made fun of whiplash, but it has been found that this is actually a very serious soft tissue problem.

The symptoms of whiplash, which can include a headache that starts at the base of the skull or stiffness in the neck, will usually begin within 24 hours of the accident. Dizziness, shoulder and neck soreness, fatigue and a loss of the range of motion in the neck might also occur. Some of the less common symptoms include ringing in the ears, irritability and memory difficulties.

The treatments for whiplash are often aimed at controlling the pain and improving the range of motion. Rest, physical therapy and medications are often used in these cases. You might need main medications, muscle relaxers and possibly numbing injections to find relief from the condition so that you are able to undergo physical therapy that is needed to heal.

It can take a while to fully heal from whiplash. This can mean time off of work for therapy and doctor's appointments. It can also mean an increase in medical bills. These might lead some victims to seek compensation for the crash.
