Car accidents can occur unexpectedly, and dealing with the aftermath can be stressful. Whether you're the victim or the responsible party, it's important to handle the situation appropriately.

Here are a few key points to remember if you find yourself in an unfortunate car accident:

Exchange Information: Regardless of the extent of the damage, it's crucial to exchange information with the other driver involved. This includes their name, address, phone number, license plate number, and insurance details.

Prioritize Safety: If your vehicle is still operational, ensure that it doesn't pose a threat to yourself or others. If the accident was minor, try to move your vehicle to the side of the road to prevent further accidents.

Contact the Police: According to Washington statute, you must involve the police if anyone sustains injuries or if the damage exceeds $1000. Not only will they document the incident, but they can also assist you with the next steps.

Choose Your Words Wisely: Never admit fault for the accident under any circumstances. Only provide an account of the facts as you recall them.

Notify Your Insurance Provider: Always inform your insurance company about the accident, but avoid giving a recorded statement to the other party's insurance company.

Capture Evidence: Take photos of the vehicle damage and the accident scene, using either your phone or a camera. Having visual documentation will support your insurance claim.

Document Injuries: If you or the other party report any injuries at the scene, inform the police, who may call for medical assistance, or jot down the details for future reference. If you sustain injuries, consider consulting with us at Magnuson Lowell, P.S. We can help determine if pursuing additional compensation is necessary. Remember, accidents happen, and it's important to remain calm and follow these steps to navigate through the situation effectively.
