What hazards do motorcyclists face on the roads?
Written By: Josh Lowell ~ 5/10/2018

Riding a motorcycle is a great way to enjoy being outdoors. You can get away from the stresses of life for a little bit, but you should make sure that you are being as safe as possible when you are out for your ride.

One thing that can help motorcyclists stay safe is understanding the types of hazards they face. These can sometimes be prevented but your safety might depend on the actions of others.

What problems can other drivers cause for motorcyclists?
Other drivers are a huge hazard for motorcyclists. One of the biggest problems that these drivers cause is that they don't always follow right of way laws when motorcyclists are involved. Two-thirds of all motorcycle-vehicle accidents are caused by the other driver not giving the motorcyclists the proper right of way. Intersections are especially dangerous for motorcycles as this is where around 70 percent of accidents with other vehicles occur.

What other hazards do they face?
Motorcycle defects are another possible hazard. Obstacles on the roads, such as loose gravel and potholes, can cause problems. Wobble events and being unfamiliar with the motorcycle can also lead to accidents. Drunk driving and distractions might also be problematic for bikers.

A motorcyclist is 26 times more likely to die in an accident than other people. This is a very serious figure because it shows how dangerous these accidents can be. While the number of other fatal accidents has been on the decline, motorcycle fatalities have been increasing. Victims of motorcycle crashes who live and the family members of those who die might opt to pursue compensation for the damages associated with the accident.
